“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' The King will reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25: 35-40 (NIV)
Since 2005, Strong Tower Ministries, Inc., (STM) has been assisting ministries that are effectively reaching, rescuing, and transforming the lives of children throughout the northern region of Baja, Mexico. Ongoing support for these ministries has always been a challenge, but starting in 2008, the task of providing basic needs to the children they served became extremely difficult due to economic issues, threats of violent crime, and health concerns over the outbreak of the “swine flu”. Unemployment in some areas of the region grew to almost 50 percent, which hampered support from local communities and church groups serving on trips from across the border. These factors left many ministries to cope with severe food, clothing, and medical aid shortages.
Beginning in the spring of 2009, STM committed to become a part of the solution. Partnerships were established with organizations in the United States such as Feed My Starving Children, Hilarious Givers, Club Dust, Corazon de Vida, Convoy of Hope, Gleanings, Global Aid Network, the Connection Church, Saddleback Church, and Children's Hunger Fund. In-Roads were then established with Christian organizations and churches within Baja, equipping them to effectively distribute donations to churches, orphanages, schools, and entire communities throughout the region. This resulted in over 500,000 pounds of food, clothing, medical, missionary support. Basic needs supplies were distributed to ministries who actively change the lives of thousands of children and families, and in every situation spiritual and physical needs were met.
Realizing that there is more work to be done, our ministry formalized these efforts into an official project named the Baja Survival Needs Distribution Project. Since 2010 this effort continues with serving opportunities both locally and in Mexico. Efforts include sorting distribution from Santa Ana and San Diego, procurement, connecting local churches and orphanages in Mexico, and helping to transport and distribute survival items.
